Ipswich community help name new Ravenswood care home

Company news

The Ipswich community has helped name the new care home to be built at Alnesbourn Crescent in Ravenswood. Following Care UK’s competition launch in August to find a name for the new home, three finalists have been selected by Councillor Jenny Antill and Chris Hopkinson, Care UK’s Regional Operations Director, before a final name choice is decided in the coming weeks.

The finalists, who were each presented with a prize of £100 Love2Shop vouchers, are local resident Mavis Palmer who nominated ‘Prince George’s Court’ in celebration of the recent birth of the royal baby; Crabbe Street care home colleague Catherine Baker who nominated ‘Ravenswood Retreat’; and a relative of a Crabbe Street care home resident who nominated ‘Cardinal House’ and donated their £100 prize to be shared among all residents at the home.

Chris Hopkinson, Regional Operations Director at Care UK, said: “It is fantastic to have the community involved in the development of the new home to be built in Ravenswood. Thank you to everyone who entered and we look forward to announcing the final name in partnership with Suffolk County Council in the coming weeks.”

Construction will begin on the new Ravenswood care home and wellbeing centre in mid-November, and it is scheduled to open in January 2015. The residents of Crabbe Street and Sidegate Lane care homes in Ipswich, which date from the sixties and seventies, will have the opportunity to move into the new home. All residents and their relatives are being closely consulted about the plans.

The new home is one of ten in Care UK’s £60 million investment into care provision in Suffolk in partnership with Suffolk County Council.
