A grand launch for new Care UK home

Home news

Primary school children joined a host of VIP guests to mark the official opening of Care UK’s Field Lodge care home in St. Ives.

Thorndown Primary School pupils Alana Bird and Jessica Walter performed a ribbon cutting to start the celebrations and local resident Freda Done – who owned the St. Ives Motel located on the site of the new care home in the 1970s – commemorated the Field Lodge milestone by placing a time capsule in the garden.

To provide another lasting legacy of the home’s official opening, the Mayor of St. Ives, Councillor Nick Dibben, planted a tree in the grounds of the 72-bed home.

Following the ceremony, the party got into full swing with entertainment for residents and their guests. Pupils helped to serve refreshments in the home’s Slepe Tea Room and joined the Care UK team to conduct tours of the home, which offers residential, nursing, dementia care and short term respite care.

The state-of-the-art care home features its very own cinema, hair salon and a nail bar. The Slepe Tea Room and hair salon are open to members of the local community who are welcome to pop in for freshly-brewed tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

Matthew Cox, home manager at Field Lodge, said: “We all had so much fun at our grand launch event and it was a joy to welcome so many people from the local community on the day – including pupils from Thorndown Primary School, who had very kindly helped us in the past by naming the suites here in the home.

“We took the opportunity to celebrate this very important milestone and we are now looking forward to continuing to make our new residents feel at home and to build on what has been a fantastic start for the team.”
