Open Day at Armstrong House Care Home in Gateshead

Home news

Residents in Gateshead are invited to take a closer look at the Armstrong House care home on Friday 20 June from 11am to 4pm, when it opens its doors as part of National Care Home Open Day.

Armstrong House, which is run by leading health and social care provider, Care UK, is fully embracing National Care Home Open Day, which aims to welcome members of the public to their local care homes, connecting residents with their communities and changing perceptions of care homes.

Visitors to the Armstrong House care home on Lobley Hill Road can take a part in a variety of activities including a charity car wash to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Refreshments and tours of the home will be available throughout the day.

Attendees of the open day at Armstrong House will also be able to pick up complimentary copies of Care UK’s first- person guides - ‘As Easy As ABC’ guide and the recently launched ‘Listen, Talk, Connect’. The popular guides provide practical information and tips for those caring for loved ones living with dementia, as well as advice on how to communicate with a loved one in a care home and make the most of their visits.

Debbie Douglas, home manager at Armstrong House, said: “With 113 care homes across the UK, Care UK has pledged its support to National Care Home Open Day; and on a local level, we are looking forward to welcoming members of the public to Armstrong House.

“Some people do still have misconceptions about care homes, and it is therefore necessary to dispel any myths and to demystify everyday life in a care home.  We are very proud of Armstrong House and we are keen to take the opportunity to showcase everything the care home has to offer and the difference it makes to our residents’ lives.

“On Friday 20 June, visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the team here, and to find out more about the modern care environment and our approach to activity-based care.  We have set out to create a fun and entertaining event for the local community, as well as our residents and their families, and we hope members of the public will join us for what promises to be a memorable weekend.”

Armstrong House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.  The home offers a range of services including residential and nursing care, specialist dementia care and respite care.
