VIP tour for Southampton NHS Treatment Centre’s 100,000th patient

Company news

There were celebrations today as the team at Care UK’s Southampton NHS Treatment Centre welcomed their 100,000th patient.

The first patient was seen at the centre in Brintons Terrace on the 1st November 2008. Since then 100,000 procedures have been carried out, of which including orthopaedic and oral surgery and gynaecology, urology and gastroenterology treatments.

Mr Brian Osler, who lives in Thornhill, was greeted at the centre by hospital director Paula Friend who presented him with a gift hamper. Mr Osler has undergone a dual operation that has restored movement to his right arm and he is now working towards a full recovery.

“I had been in pain for so many years and, as my shoulder and wrist deteriorated, my sleep became more and more disrupted. I felt worn out and the pain killers just weren’t helping any more,” he explained.

“I felt as if I were at the centre of things during my appointments and it was clear the team wanted to help. When I went in for my operation a nurse introduced herself and stayed with me as I went through the pre-surgery process, which was reassuring.

“Mr Akbar Baboli, who carried out my shoulder operations, and Mr Vasileios Kefalas, who operated on my carpal tunnel, were wonderful and I was able to go home later the same day.”

Mr Osler received follow-up physiotherapy and he is delighted with the results. “I am able to raise my arm fully, something I have not been able to do for years, and I can put my hand behind my back. I’m on the road to being pain free and I can now sleep again.”

Paula Friend said: “I am delighted that Mr Osler had such a positive experience, and his views certainly reflect the feedback we receive from our patients and visitors.

“Our 100,000th patient is quite a landmark. I am very proud of my team - they are not only healthcare experts but they are also truly empathetic carers who treat everyone as an individual, whether they are their first or 100,000th patient.”
