The team at Elmstead House invited pupils from Ayesha School to visit the care home on the 2nd April to get involved in activities around voting, reminiscence and politics.
The GCSE students spent time with the residents, talking about the first time they had voted, the change in politics and reminiscing on past elections. The students arrived with flowers, snack and cakes, which were all enjoyed throughout the afternoon.
Lorraine McHugh, home manager at Elmstead House said “It was really lovely to meet the students and teachers from Ayesha School; they brought lots of goodies with them, baskets of biscuits and fruit, trays of food and flowers. I think they enjoyed meeting and chatting to some of the residents and I know that the residents had a lovely afternoon.”
“The students were lovely, polite and very enthusiastic. We are looking forward to meeting them again.”
At 3pm an Easter raffle too place, followed by the students showing residents how to take selfies with their laptops.
Lorraine also gave the students a tour of the home, showing them the home’s cinema and sensory room. They even caught some of the residents making their own Easter cards and thought they were great.
