Health centre offers reception area to charities

Company news

A STOKE-ON-TRENT health centre will be welcoming representatives from the Douglas Macmillan Hospice next month, who will be hosting an information stand in the reception area

Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre in Stafford Street, Hanley, run on behalf of the local NHS by leading independent health and social care company, Care UK, houses an NHS walk-in centre and also a registered GP practice.

The stand, which will be staffed from August 3 for the week, will contain literature aiming to inform the local community that the Douglas Macmillan Hospice is more than a hospice and also what the hospice can do for the local community.

Elizabeth Clarke, Manager of Community Engagement at Douglas Macmillan Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be able to promote all services the Douglas Macmillan Hospice has to offer at the centre during this particular week. The hospice currently cares for nearly 3,000 patients from this area who suffer from cancer and other life limiting illness. The hospice is a local registered charity with no affiliation to any other national charity and so relies on voluntary donations to maintain the standard of care for which we are renowned.”

Louise Screen, the Deputy Service Manager at Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre, said: “We are very happy to offer whatever help we can to local organisations. During the past couple of months we have had Macmillan Cancer Support, Age UK and SCOPE utilise our reception area space to increase awareness of what they do and we would welcome other groups to contact us if they would like to do likewise.”

Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre is open 8am-8pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year for walk-in patients with a minor injury or minor illness and for registered patients to book appointments. The centre can be contacted on 0300 123 6759.
