The trio took to the hairdresser’s chair in the care home’s cafe to have their heads shaved by students from Huntingdonshire Regional College. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the three have been appealing for donations in the run-up to the head shaving and are well on their way to reaching their £1,000 fundraising target.
Home manager, Lisa Houghton, explained exactly why they decided to put themselves at the mercy of the hair clippers: “Our decision to shave our heads in aid of Breast Cancer Now really started with a mention in a conversation, but the idea didn’t seem to go away! In fact, it took on a life of its own and Sam and I were absolutely thrilled when Sidney decided he also wanted to join us and have his head shaved for such a fantastic cause.
“Everyone at Field Lodge got behind us and their encouragement made a real difference. We are really grateful for the donations we’ve received as it has made it all worthwhile. On a personal level, I’m also hoping our actions send out a clear message that we are all more than just a hairstyle and indeed, some people face far greater challenges than voluntarily having their head shaved.”
