Free advice event returns to Bowes House care home

Home news

The care team at Bowes House will open the doors to the care home on Battle Road on Wednesday 16th March for the return of its popular free Understanding Dementia event, which has been designed to provide support and practical advice for family carers.

From 2.30pm-4.30pm, a dementia specialist, Sally Hemmings, from Sally Hemmings Training will be on hand to help people understand what it might be like to live with dementia. There will be information on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers – all with the aim of helping people discover positive approaches to caring for loved ones living with dementia.

Everyone who attends the event will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their own personal experiences, and there will also be a chance to meet the team at Bowes House and take a tour of the care home.

Bowes House home manager, Helena Barrow, said: “At Bowes House we strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference to the everyday lives of those caring for loved ones loving with dementia.  With the team here committed to offering advice and practical support, we are delighted to invite members of the local community to our Understanding Dementia event.

“Previous events have proven to be incredibly popular, so we urge people to book for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

Situated on Battle Road in Hailsham, Bowes House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care.  Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
