Free event to help Bury St Edmunds community understand dementia

A free event to help the Bury St Edmunds community learn more about and understand dementia will take place at Glastonbury Court care home on Wednesday 25th May from 10am to 12pm.

The Understanding Dementia event at Glastonbury Court, on will be hosted by Care UK dementia specialist Bridget Penney who will provide practical tips and advice to local residents who currently care for a loved one living with dementia. Bridget will explain what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as looking at ways to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.

Jennie Rodger, home manager at Glastonbury Court care home, said: “It is really important for family carers to be equipped with plenty of support when caring for loved ones living with dementia. By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide people in Bury St Edmunds with expert advice and give them a chance to find out more about dementia services in the area.”

Those who attend the event will also be able to pick up copies of Care UK’s free guides which are full of practical hints and tips to support family carers and their loved ones. These include ‘Listen, talk, connect’, ‘As Easy as ABC’, ‘Good to Go’ and the new ‘Eating as we age’ guide which provides practical tips and recipe ideas for eating well in older age.
