From 1pm until 3pm, the team at Cairdean House will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s event at Cairdean House is a carnival fiesta inspired by the Rio 2016 Olympics. The fun-filled event will feature entertainment from a stilt walker and a face painter. There will be traditional games including ‘grab a duck’ and ‘tin can throw', along with a tombola and raffle.
Michelle Reid, home manager at Cairdean House, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Cairdean House has to offer.
“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Edinburgh to be a part of it.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Cairdean House will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age. The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
