Grangewood care home invites people in Houghton-le-Spring to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Home news

Care UK’s Grangewood care home in Houghton-le-Spring is inviting local people to visit the home on Chester Road on Friday 17th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 11am until 4pm, the team at Grangewood will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

In honour of The Queen’s 90th birthday, there will be right royal celebration at Grangewood on Friday. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a traditional street party, and there will be live entertainment from singer Marcus Cummings to help everyone get into the party spirit. There will also be a fun game of bingo and karaoke.

Dorothy Marlow, home manager at Grangewood, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.

“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Grangewood has to offer.

“We have got a fun day of activities planned, and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Houghton-le-Spring to be a part of it.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Grangewood will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age.  The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
