Grangewood is a purpose-built care home in the village of Shiney Row, close to Houghton-le-Spring in Tyne and Wear. We provide quality residential care for older people, including those living with dementia.
The gold standard in care
We are proud to have been awarded Sunderland City Council’s gold standard for quality care. This demonstrates our overall commitment to quality care, including a focus on healthy eating, health and safety and stimulating activities.
At the heart of the community
Our home has a strong community atmosphere. Most residents have lived locally all their lives - as have many of our colleagues. Often, when a new resident moves in, they're instantly among old friends and familiar faces.
Grangewood is close to the village library, medical centre and various churches. There's also a post office and a pub on our doorstep, and good transport links to Sunderland, Newcastle, Chester-le-Street and Durham. It all adds to the sense of being at the heart of things.
Your own space
All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Each has a 24-hour nurse call system and telephone, internet and television connections. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.
