Welcome to Grangewood

Grangewood is a purpose-built care home in the village of Shiney Row in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear. Our bright and welcoming care home provides quality residential care for older people, including those living with dementia.

All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Each has a 24-hour nurse call system and telephone, internet and television connections. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

Our home has a strong community atmosphere. Most residents have lived locally all their lives - as have many of our colleagues. Often, when a new resident moves in, they're instantly among old friends and familiar faces.

We pride ourselves on the transparency of our care quality and fee information - ensuring you can trust us to care from that very first step.

Memory dance - free event at Grangewood

Join us for the last Friday of every month, 2pm - 4pm for a dance! Listen, dance and reminiscence to many songs over the decades, sparking those magical memories.

We support your loved one to maintain their independence by taking part in group and one-to-one activities, outings and entertainment in the home. They’re also welcome to do small tasks around Grangewood if it brings them a sense of purpose. Every day can be exactly what they’d like it to be.

One of my favourite parts of the day is chatting to residents and listening to their life stories. There’s so much we can learn from the older generation.

Here are just some of the comments we’ve received from family, friends and residents at Grangewood care home.

There are two members of the team in charge of activities and entertainment, and they are lovely... they do such an important job keeping everyone active and amused. They organise day trips and there's lots happening in the home every day… singalongs, exercise classes, they have animals coming in, all sorts happening... if a resident wants to do something special, they do their best to make it happen. They organise fundraising too, and put on special events through the year. They're brilliant!

The carers are absolutely phenomenal, all the team members are brilliant... I feel a lot of them are like an extended family. My loved one is settled there and the team is wonderful with her when she refuses to cooperate. She is never pushed to do anything she doesn't want to do; they respect her wishes, but they have a way of charming her. Their priority is making sure she is happy and safe.
