Grangewood, get in touch

Grangewood is a bright and welcoming care home offering gold standard care and a strong community atmosphere.

We’re here to support you and your loved one through your journey into care and are able to offer one-to-one video chats as well as in-person appointments for show rounds of our care home. If you’re considering care for yourself or a loved one, call us today to speak to one of our friendly care support team, who can answer any questions you may have about the care available at Grangewood.

Grangewood is a purpose-built care home in the village of Shiney Row, close to Houghton-le-Spring in Tyne and Wear. We provide quality residential care for older people, including those living with dementia.

The gold standard in care

We are proud to have been awarded Sunderland City Council’s gold standard for quality care. This demonstrates our overall commitment to quality care, including a focus on healthy eating, health and safety and stimulating activities.

Award-winning colleagues

Northern Echo healthcareawards_0

Each member of the Grangewood team is passionate about delivering expert care that’s tailored to your loved one’s unique needs. That passion and dedication is epitomised by Senior Carer, Caryn Walmsley, who won the Northern Echo Dementia Carer of the Year award 2021.

Caryn adapts her approach to each resident and always goes the extra mile too. Whatever a resident would like to do to enhance their day – reading, singing, doing puzzles or reminiscence – Caryn will support them to do it so they have a meaningful experience.

At the heart of the community

Our home has a strong community atmosphere. Most residents have lived locally all their lives - as have many of our colleagues. Often, when a new resident moves in, they're instantly among old friends and familiar faces.

Grangewood is close to the village library, medical centre and various churches. There's also a post office and a pub on our doorstep, and good transport links to Sunderland, Newcastle, Chester-le-Street and Durham. It all adds to the sense of being at the heart of things.

Your own space

All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Each has a 24-hour nurse call system and telephone, internet and television connections. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.
