Residents, relatives and visitors at Davers Court enjoyed a 1950s themed party with a barbecue and live blues and jazz music from singer Les Trutch. Meanwhile Glastonbury Court on Glastonbury Road in Bury St Edmunds, Cedrus House on Creeting Road East in Stowmarket and Mildenhall Lodge in St John’s Close, Mildenhall, all held Rio carnival-inspired events. There was a Brazilian headdress competition, live entertainment from local singer Sabrina Summer and a dance performance by Horringer Court Middle School pupils at Glastonbury Court, and live music and a cocktail bar at Mildenhall Lodge. Residents at Cedrus House were busy making masks and carnival floats, and enjoyed a steel band performance and a barbecue.
The Care UK west Suffolk homes were amongst thousands of care homes to take part in Care Home Open Day this year with the aim of challenging perceptions of care homes, connecting residents with even more people in their community, and developing relationships across the generations.
Michelle Webster, home manager at Cedrus House, said: “It was a wonderful day and we were delighted to see so many local people. Residents had a brilliant day and it was great to strengthen our relationships with the wider community.”
Visitors to Care UK’s Care Home Open Day events were also able to pick up their free copies of Care UK’s advice guides, including ‘Listen, talk, connect’, ‘As Easy as ABC’, ‘Good to Go’ and the new ‘Eating as we age’ guide which provides practical tips and recipe ideas for eating well in older age. For those who didn’t pick up a copy on the day, the free guides can be downloaded online at careuk.com/support-for-carers.
