New country pub pours memories for residents at Eye care home

Residents at Hartismere Place care home are raising a toast to their home’s newest feature – a traditional country pub.

The pub, named by residents as The Dog and Duck, was installed by Care UK colleagues at the residents’ request, and features traditional décor, ale pumps and a bell to ‘call time’.

The Dog and Duck pub is already becoming a popular hotspot, where residents can enjoy their favourite tipple, socialise with friends and family, and reminisce about times spent enjoying a pint at their local. The familiar setting has many benefits, especially for those living with dementia. 

Cathryn Weed, home manager at Hartismere Place, said: “The Dog and Duck was voted for by residents, for the residents, and we’re all delighted with how great it looks. We believe it’s really important for older people to keep active and involved in everyday activities and to continue enjoying the things they love, which is why the pub is an excellent addition to Hartismere Place.”
