Bury St Edmunds care home colleague wins national Care UK award

Home news

Glastonbury Court care home in Bury St Edmunds is celebrating after its team member, Amanda Thornsby, won deputy manager of the year award at Care UK’s national awards.

Amanda, who works at the care home, was one of three finalists in her category and beat off stiff competition from colleagues in over 100 Care UK homes nationally.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise and reward individual and team excellence across Care UK’s RCS division. Amanda was nominated for the RCS Stars award for being an excellent role model to others and an inspiring team player, as well as her warm, welcoming and engaging manner.

The panel of judges found that Amanda always goes above and beyond her role as a deputy manager, helping to support her team, as well as going the extra mile to ensure the residents feel at home and take part in the many activities available.

Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “We are thrilled that Amanda has won deputy manager of the year in Care UK’s national RCS Stars awards.

“Amanda is a brilliant character at Glastonbury Court, she is incredibly passionate and always goes out of her way to help others – her cheerful attitude always brings a smile to the residents’ faces.”

Speaking about winning the award, Amanda said: “I was shocked when I heard I was a finalist in the category, so winning came as an even bigger surprise!

“I am so honoured to have been given this accolade and can’t thank the wonderful Care UK team and residents at Glastonbury Court enough for their continued support.”
