The care home recently donated £1,500 to the Friends of Abney Hall Park to assist in maintaining and preserving the park pathways. The park has over 200 acres of natural woodland and is a popular destination for the local community. The historic grounds of the park will be the back drop to every walk.
Tracy Mitchell, home manager at Abney Court, said: “We are really excited to be launching a Dementia Walking Group at Abney Court. We advocate ‘activity based care’ and encourage residents to get involved in different activities to help lead as independent lives as possible, it’s great that we are now able to extend this to the wider community.
“Walking is a great activity for those living with dementia, not only is it a great way to keep fit, but it also improves sleep, self-esteem and mood. Anecdotal feedback suggests outdoor activities can even bring back memories to give those living with dementia moments of calm and clarity.”
