Green-fingered residents and the team at The Potteries were joined by team members from Care UK’s head office for a day helping to renovate the home’s garden.
As part of a project to create a new ‘secret garden’ area at the home, residents enjoyed getting outdoors and back to nature. For many gardening has been a lifelong hobby, and this was the perfect opportunity for residents to pass on their tips for creating a beautiful garden.
Residents painted special pots which will be used to grow flowers, and also helped with potting plants in the new raised flower beds which are accessible for all of the residents.
After the garden had been cleared of the existing bushes and plants, work began on laying the foundations for the home’s new summer house, which will be built with raised decking to include accessibility for all.
Zita Turner, home manager at The Potteries, said: “The residents here at The Potteries are incredibly excited about the plans for the garden, so we were delighted to welcome the extra hands to help start on the project. The final step now is building the summer house, and the residents can’t wait to be able to relax in the garden when this is complete.
“For many residents, gardening would have been a daily activity with most taking great pride in the presentation of their garden, so it was nice to be able to give the residents the opportunity to use their green fingers.”
