Care UK celebrates three wins at the National Dementia Care Awards

Company news

Care UK is celebrating having won three National Dementia Care awards.

The awards are held annually and recognise the very best in dementia care across the sector, paying tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance within their field of work.

Appleby House in Epsom, Hollins Park in Macclesfield, and Care UK non-executive director Dr Nori Graham, were all crowned winners at the awards ceremony.

Home manager at Appleby House, Shona Bradbury, was named Dementia Care Personality, having been recognised by colleagues and residents for her continual hard work at the Epsom care home.

Shona has worked at Appleby House for three years and during her time there has implemented a number of initiatives to make the home a more enjoyable place for people living with dementia. This includes a ‘Happy Café’, regular pamper sessions, a wishing well, and friendship groups involving members of the local community.

Tracy Norbury, deputy manager at Hollins Park, beat off stiff competition to win the award for Lead Dementia Nurse. With more than a decade of experience in the care sector, Tracy is renowned for her warm, welcoming and caring nature - and for being a good role model for her team.

The final Care UK award of the evening, the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, went to Care UK’s non-executive director, Dr Nori Graham. Judges praised Nori’s breadth of influence and sheer tenacity over decades working in the dementia care sector. She was described as being an inspiring leader and a role model – making her a worthy winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Speaking about winning the award, Nori said: “Looking back over my lifetime of work it is amazing to see progress that has been made in the care sector since I started out in 1968. I am delighted to have been able to make a small contribution and amazed this has been recognised so generously – it’s always lovely to have your hard work acknowledged but this one is extra special!”

Tracy Norbury added: “I was delighted to be named Lead Dementia Nurse at the awards. I believe in dedicated, compassionate leadership and always strive to empower my team to deliver the best possible care. I am thrilled to have been recognised for my work and hope to continue to build strong relationships with my team and residents.”
