Sutton Coldfield school children get crafty for Mercia Grange

Home news

Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Mercia Grange care home.

Students from Hollyfield Primary School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’ The artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding Mercia Grange on Lichfield Road, as the care home begins to take shape.

The year two children who designed the artwork visited the site to see their drawings up on display, with the help of construction partners, Seddon and Octopus Healthcare.

The multi-million pound purpose-built care home which will provide full time residential and specialist dementia care for up to 67 older people in Sutton Coldfield, is due to open in early 2018.

Tim Parker, construction project manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Hollyfield Primary School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings. It was great to welcome the children to see their pictures displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”

Mrs Wilkinson, class teacher at the school, added: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked us to be part of their exciting new venture here in Sutton Coldfield. The children had a great time creating the artwork and love seeing it displayed for the community to see.”

Eamonn Burns, regional director at Seddon, added: “Our project team were delighted to work with the children from Hollyfield Primary School and the artwork looks fantastic. The care home will be a big part of the area’s future, so for us it is important to involve the community as much as possible during construction. ”
