Keep dancing: Life’s a ball at Field Lodge

Home news

Residents at Field Lodge donned their dancing shoes for a night of glitz and glamour at its ‘Take My Hand’ ball.

Field Lodge rolled out the red carpet in celebration of 91 year old resident, Bernard Sadler, who has been ballroom dancing since the age of 16.

Bernard grew up in Histon and regularly attended ballroom classes with his friends and wife, Jean Sadler - who he first met at a dance class in Ely. Bernard, has lived at Field Lodge for three years and regularly talks about his love for dancing and the happy memories he has, including his love for his favourite dance, the quickstep.

The team arranged for ballroom classes to take place at Field Lodge for Bernard and the other residents, and it was these classes which gave the team the inspiration to organise the ‘Take My Hand’ ball, having seen how much everyone enjoyed dancing and listening to music from their younger years.

Residents, relatives, and visitors enjoyed the black tie evening with live music from singer Stacey Wood.

Speaking about the event, customer relations manager, Julie May, said: “The care team at Field Lodge love listening to the residents’ stories and hearing all about their hobbies and interests. Bernard has always been so passionate about his love for dancing that we wanted to help him get back into the swing of things with dance lessons at the home.

“After the first lesson with Susan Barnes, seeing all the smiling faces in the room, and knowing Bernard’s love for Strictly Come Dancing, we knew we had to take this further by hosting a glitzy event of our own for everyone to enjoy.

“We had a fabulous evening, dancing and laughing and we are so pleased we could host such a fun event for Bernard and the residents here at Field Lodge.”
