Cairdean House takes a walk on the wild side

Home news

Residents took a walk on the wild side when they were given the opportunity to get up close with some furry new friends.

Cairdean House invited two alpacas, Amadeus and Calvin from BobCat Alpacas in Bonaly, Edinburgh, to lead a ‘meet and greet’ with residents.

The alpacas took a tour of the home and gardens, and residents were encouraged to pet and interact with them.  As part of the visit, residents also learned about the history and characterisation of Alpacas, as well as a host of interesting facts.

Gillian Goodall, home manager at Cairdean House, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, we invited BobCat Alpacas along to provide a fun afternoon with the furry duo.

“It proved to be a real success, and you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed interacting with Amadeus and Calvin.  Not only did the workshop fit really well with our ‘activity based care’ approach here at Cairdean House, it was also fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, especially as it can have real therapeutic benefits for residents – particularly those living with dementia.”
