The Care UK teams at Davers Court on Shakers Lane and Glastonbury Court on Glastonbury Road welcomed the people of Bury St Edmunds to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
Residents and visitors at Davers Court created their own cocktails and mocktails and raised a glass to the Queen on her 92nd birthday. The team hosted a royal-themed quiz all about the history and life of the Queen, while the care home’s chefs provided a typically British lunch of pie and mash. In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed a patriotic sing-along with Budgie Entertainment. The MP for Bury St Edmunds, Jo Churchill, and local PCSO, Amanda Pooley also joined in with the celebrations.
Meanwhile residents and visitors at Glastonbury Court took a trip around the world as they celebrated the day with a Commonwealth theme. Guests of honour, the Mayor of Bury St Edmunds, Terry Clements, and his wife Vivian Clements, joined in the celebrations which included a ‘Tastes of the Commonwealth’ morning, a mini-Commonwealth Games in the garden, and musical performances inspired by countries around the world.
Wendy Harvey, home manager at Davers Court, said: “We had a fantastic day celebrating Care Home Open Day with a party fit for a queen! The residents really enjoyed their royal celebrations and it was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party.
Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “For this year’s Care Home Open Day celebrations we wanted to do something a little different, and as the residents and team all enjoyed the Commonwealth Games recently, we thought it fitting to put our own spin on the occasion!
“We would like to say a big thank you to the people of Bury St Edmunds for celebrating with us and making it the best Care Home Open Day yet!”
