Cairdean House celebrates Care Home Open Day with help from four-legged friends

Home news

There was fun for all at Cairdean House when it invited the local community in for a day of celebrations, including a visit from some friendly miniature ponies.

The team at Cairdean House welcomed the people of Colinton to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

The home marked the occasion by throwing a royal-inspired party in honour of the Queen’s 92nd birthday. Miniature ponies from Therapy Ponies Scotland made a special guest appearance at the celebration, and residents and visitors were delighted to be able to get up close with the animals.

There was a live performance from local singer, Scott Neil, and Cairdean House’s own singing group throughout the afternoon, and younger guests enjoyed face painting, a bouncy castle and goodie bags.

Gillian Goodall, home manager at Cairdean House, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Care Home Open Day at Cairdean House, and it was also a celebration of our fifth anniversary. The residents all really enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s birthday. Those in the Cairdean House singing group were delighted to perform for their friends and family.

“Care Home Open Day is all about building bridges with our local community, and showing what life in a care home is really like, so it was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours come along to celebrate. We would like to say a big thank you to Scott Neil and Therapy Ponies Scotland, as well as the people of Colinton, for joining us.”
