Field Lodge is shortlisted for national award

Home news

Field Lodge is celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award.

Field Lodge has been shortlisted in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at the Care Home Awards 2018.

The Care Home Awards are held annually to celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, culminating in an awards ceremony on Wednesday 27th June. The 17 categories highlight excellence within the care sector, and reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

In the nomination, Field Lodge was described as being a ‘vibrant home with a wide range of activities designed with, and for residents.’ Lifestyle lead, Sam Shepherd, regularly organises interesting and varied events for residents, both at the home and on trips away. Activities include everything from film screenings and exercise classes to a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ ball and Motown nights.

The home also runs a scheme whereby residents are able to make a wish and Sam and the team work to make it happen. As part of this programme, Sam recently took two residents on a limousine sight-seeing trip in London and is planning a return trip to the capital with another resident, to take her on the London Eye – something she has wanted to do for many years.

Field Lodge prides itself on making memorable moments for residents, which was summed up by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in its recent report: “People were given numerous, individualised and creative opportunities to fulfil their wishes and dreams and to keep their minds and bodies active.”

Home manager at Field Lodge, Linda Martinez, said: “We are thrilled to have been nominated for an award at this year’s Care Home Awards, and with such a focus on activity-based care here at Field Lodge, we were delighted to have been shortlisted in the Sporting and Leisure category.

“As well as our day-to-day events and activities at the home, we always strive to go the extra mile for residents and make their wishes come true. We host singing lessons, gardening activities, and we regularly invite young people from the Prince’s Trust to join us which has had a positive impact on many residents.

“We are so grateful to have even made it to this stage, but we would all love to win the award in June!”
