Mercia Grange now open in Sutton Coldfield

Home news

Mercia Grange has welcomed its first residents to the new purpose-built, luxury care home.

Home manager Shirley Gibbs will lead the team at the home, having previously spent over 35 years working within the care sector, including 15 years as a nurse.

Shirley has a variety of relevant qualifications in both care and management, including level three in Occupational Health and Safety from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, and received a registered manager award from City & Guilds. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of Mercia Grange, which accommodates up to 67 residents.

Shirley prides herself on her strong work ethic, and during her career she has focused her approach to management on consistency and leading by example to implement a positive culture within the home.

Commenting on her position, Shirley said: “I am delighted to be taking the reins at Mercia Grange, and I am excited to lead a skilled and passionate team.

“I believe that in order to be a successful home manager you need to be caring, supportive, conscientious, and always empathetic. Commissioning a brand-new home has always been an ambition of mine, so I’m thrilled to be starting a new chapter here in Sutton Coldfield, delivering the highest quality of care possible. More than anything, I’m looking forward to putting smiles on the residents’ faces, knowing they are having a joyful time at a happy home.”

Shirley will have the support of Tracy O'Sullivan, deputy manager at Mercia Grange. Tracy has worked in the care sector for 20 years and joined Care UK in 2017. She has a kind and compassionate nature and enjoys spending time with residents. Tracy always takes the time to listen to her colleagues and offers her support when needed.

Also part of the senior team at Mercia Grange is customer relations manager, Rachel MacKay, who has been working in the care sector for nine years and has a passion for providing great dementia care. Rachel is also a dementia champion for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Speaking about her role, Rachel said: “I previously worked at Care UK’s Brook Court, in Kidderminster, so I am delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of a new Care UK team here at Mercia Grange. Most of all, I am looking forward to meeting new families and residents and making them feel at home. I am excited to be a part of the team here in Sutton Coldfield, and to welcoming residents through the doors.”
