Residents at Chandler Court take a nostalgic trip to the 1940s

Home news

Residents at Chandler Court took a trip down memory lane with a themed 1940s event.

The team at Chandler Court held the 1940s day for residents, families and guests from Perry Manor care home, in Worcester.

As a tribute to the Battle of Britain, residents and guests spent the day immersing themselves in the sights and sounds of wartime Britain - from enjoying a three-course ration book meal to dancing the afternoon away with vintage songs from The Poppy Sisters.

Dennis Norton, owner of The Norton Collection Museum, visited the home and treated the visitors and residents to a historical talk on the wartime artefacts held at the museum.

There was a much-anticipated visit from a number of vintage jeeps with the drivers and their partners dressed in the very best wartime uniform. Residents and guests were also treated to a surprise performance of American Swing from the drivers, which led to many of the residents sharing stories of their dancing days.

Joanne Gill, home manager at Chandler Court, said: “Here at Chandler Court we strongly believe in having an activity-based approach to care and are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents. We were delighted to arrange a special 1940s day for the residents here and guests from Perry Manor.

“The themed day was a great opportunity for residents to reminisce and talk about growing up in the 1940s, which can be therapeutic for older people, especially those living with dementia.”

“It proved to be a fantastic day, and you could see from the residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed the journey back to the sights and sounds of the 1940s.”
