Get creative in County Durham this Care Home Open Day

Care homes in County Durham are inviting local people to join in their celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

Get creative in County Durham this Care Home Open Day

On Friday 28th June, the team at Church View will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event from 2pm - 4pm, while Stanley Park will be welcoming guests from 11am - 4pm.

The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Both homes have organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Church View will be celebrating the day with music, hosting a family-friendly DJ so everyone can sing along to their favourite tunes through the decades.

At Stanley Park, guests can look forward to an arts and crafts session, poetry readings, and live entertainment, as well as summer games including a tombola.

Michelle Daglish, home manager at Church View, said: “Care Home Open Day is such a wonderful opportunity for our home to connect with the local community and show what it’s really like to live in a care home. We’re counting down the days until we welcome the local community into Church View.”

Christine Dudley, home manager at Stanley Park, added: “The residents are really excited to showcase their artistic skills, and we’re all particularly looking forward to the poetry readings. I know the residents and community are going to have a great time!”
