Murrayside scoops national award

Home news

Murrayside is celebrating after a team member was awarded a national accolade.

Marika Maczkowska, head housekeeper at Care UK’s Murrayside, on South Beechwood, has been recognised as a Care Home Hero in the 2019 Care Home Heroes Awards.

Marika scooped the award after being nominated by home manager Michelle Reid for striving to make a difference and going the extra-mile for residents.

The Care Home Heroes Awards are organised by Ontex, in association with Caring Times, and reward individuals working in the care sector who make a real impact in their place of work.

Marika was praised for putting residents at the centre of everything she does, by enabling them to get involved in her day-to-day role, giving them a sense of purpose. Her care goes beyond expectations – for instance, she adapted a resident’s clothes by making discrete alterations, which allowed him to continue wearing his favourite outfits independently.

Marika also designed and made “Murray”, the care home elephant mascot’s outfit, as well as numerous soft toys and other items to sell at charity events hosted at Murrayside.

Michelle Reid, home manager at Murrayside, said: “The Care Home Heroes awards is a brilliant opportunity for individuals within the care sector to showcase their commitment and dedication.

“We’re delighted that Marika has been recognised for this accolade – she is very popular with residents and team members alike and makes a tremendous impact on residents’ lives every day.

“I would like to thank Marika and the rest of the team for all their hard work in making Murrayside a wonderful place to live for all residents – every person is such a valuable part of the team and I really appreciate their commitment to the home.”
