Whitebourne care home launches dementia café with help from local councillor

Home news

Whitebourne care home in Frimley has recently launched a new monthly dementia support group – with the help of a special guest.

To celebrate the official launch of the café and the newly refurbished day centre at Whitebourne care home, off Burley Road, councillor for Frimley, Sarah Jane Croke, attended the opening and carried out the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

The launch was also attended by members of Frimley Business Association, Michael Usher, and Nigel Bradley, along with residents, relatives and friends.

The informal café will provide an opportunity for carers, families, and people living with dementia to drop into the home for a break, a chat and to meet others in a similar situation on the last Tuesday of every month, from 2pm-4pm.

Derek Purchese, home manager at Whitebourne, said: “At Whitebourne, we strive to create a sense of belonging within the home, and to provide a positive impact on the local community by building support systems for our neighbours. We aim to create a cheerful environment at the café where everyone will feel comfortable to share their personal stories.

“We’re thrilled to have welcomed the local community to our event, and would like to thank chancellor Sarah Jane Croke for helping us to launch our wonderful new café. We believe that no carer should feel alone, so we’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces for a chat over a cup of tea and slice of cake.”

Whitebourne care home has been designed to provide residential and specialist dementia care, as well as respite, and sensitive end of life care. The home has a hair salon, café and garden, enabling residents to live active and fulfilling lives.
