Aston Villa legend launches new nursing suite at Sutton Coldfield care home.

Mercia Grange has launched a new suite with the help of residents and Aston Villa legend, Ken McNaught.

The Care UK team at Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, welcomed the former professional footballer to a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially open its new nursing suite.

The Sixsmith Suite, named after the Jane Sixsmith 0 the Sutton Coldfield-born British field hockey player, by pupils from Hollyfield Primary School, will provide specialist nursing care for people in the town and surrounding areas.

The occasion gave the ex-Villa defender and members of the community the opportunity to view the facilities on offer at Mercia Grange, including its beautiful gardens and spacious lounge areas.

Home manager at Mercia Grange, Shirley Gibbs, said: “The official opening of our Sixsmith Suite is an important milestone for the home, as it means we can now offer specialist nursing care to the community of Sutton Coldfield and surrounding areas.

“Having Ken McNaught open the suite was an honour, and the residents loved speaking with him about his footballing days and their lives here at Mercia Grange.

“We have worked hard to create a warm, welcoming and homely atmosphere, with everything in place so we can provide the highest standards of personalised care, and we look forward to continuing this into our new nursing suite.

“It was a fantastic occasion, and I’d like to thank Ken McNaught for helping us to mark the special day.”

The opening of the new nursing suite comes just weeks after Mercia Grange celebrated being awarded ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a recent inspection.
