Clara Court care home makes the finals in national awards

Care UK’s Clara Court, on Courthouse Road, has made it to the final stage in the ‘Care Team of the Year’ category in the Caring UK Awards 2019.

The national awards celebrate and reward excellence and team effort in care homes in the country.

Rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC earlier this year, Clara Court has developed a ‘family culture’ over the years, and team members are known to go the extra-mile to recreate the feeling of home. For example, the chef often plays the guitar to entertain residents, while the maintenance team sometimes take residents out on fishing trips.

Residents are encouraged to live independently in every way possible by the Clara Court team. A residents’ ambassador scheme offers the opportunity to make important decisions via a dot voting system, and team members regularly take residents on trips that are meaningful to them. Recently, a former British Airways cabin supervisor was taken to visit the airline’s heritage centre, while others were offered the opportunity to go swimming.

A relative commented: “Granny has a new lease of life! Hair and nails done, engaging in activities (including Zumba!), eating well and motoring around as if she has had a new set of batteries fitted.”
