Local care ho-ho-home brings festive cheer to Sutton Coldfield

Home news

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at a Sutton Coldfield care home, and the local community is invited to celebrate the festive season at its Christmas Fair.

On Saturday 7th December at Care UK’s Mercia Grange, from 2pm-4pm, the team will open the doors to the home on Lichfield Road and bring festive cheer to the town.

Visitors will be able to start their Christmas shopping at a number of stalls, enjoy festive treats and say hello to Father Christmas in his festive grotto.

Mercia Grange home manager, Shirley Gibbs, said: “The local community is a huge part of life here and the relationships we have are extremely important to us, so the invitation to join our Christmas Fair is a great way to say thank you for their support over the last year and spread some festive cheer.

“As well as providing a great chance for some seasonal fun, our Christmas Fair also gives us an opportunity to prompt happy memories of Christmas for residents, which is especially important for those living with dementia. Reminiscence activities like this are perfect for getting conversations going and sharing memories, so it’s fantastic opportunity for everyone to enjoy some festive fun.

“The afternoon is set to be enjoyable for all ages. The Christmas playlist will be turned up loud, our in-home chef will be showcasing seasonal food and drink, while a visit from Father Christmas will keep our younger guests entertained. We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of people to the home for what promises to be an exciting afternoon of festive celebrations.”

Mercia Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care. The three-storey care home, which features 67 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.

Notes to Editors:

Care UK is one of the largest providers of residential care for older people. We operate 119 care homes with almost 7,800 beds providing both residential and nursing care. Our team of 8,000 people delivers care to over 7,000 residents every single day.

Our care homes provide an impressive range of care services for older people, ranging from short stay respite care to nursing care, end of life care, plus specialist care and support for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

We are proud to be building so many modern and fit for purpose new care homes - we have opened 31 new homes since 2011 and expect to open around 20 new homes by the end of 2020 in locations including Bristol, Edinburgh, Chester and Whitstable.

The quality of our services, as rated by the CQC in England and the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, compares favourably with other providers. More of Care UK’s homes are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ than those run by the other four largest UK care home providers.

Care UK also has a healthcare division which delivers more than 70 dedicated NHS services across England including NHS treatment centres and NHS 111 services.  We treat more than a million patients every year using the same governance and accountability procedures and standards and measures of success as the NHS
