Bird is the word! Sutton Coldfield care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British birdsResidents at a care home in Sutton Coldfield are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.

Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th January to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the birds in their garden.

Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, will be celebrating the best of British birds by having a visit from Mere Green Primary School to make fat balls.

Shirley Gibbs, home manager at Mercia Grange, explained why exploring our wildlife is an important activity: “We’re always inspired by RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, and this year we’ve decided to go one step further and celebrate British birds by making homemade fat balls along with pupils from Mere Green Primary School.

“We’re excited to be taking part in a whole host of nature-based activities, so it will be a great opportunity for everyone to have lots of fun while learning more about our local wildlife.

“We look forward to welcoming Mere Green Primary School to get our celebration off to a flying start!”
