It was the best kind of silent night at a Ware care home when it hosted a disco with a difference, bringing smiles to the faces of residents getting into the festive groove.
Care UK’s Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, welcomed Move and Groove Silent Disco for an afternoon of toe-tapping fun.
From Jingle Bells to the Hokey Cokey, the tailored movement to music session included a variety of gentle exercise routines set to music, designed to take the young-at-heart residents back to their youth.
Clare Crow, home manager at Snowdrop House, explained why musical activities are important for residents: “Music can have many therapeutic benefits for older people – especially those living with dementia – by offering them a way to communicate and express themselves, while also triggering happy memories from their younger years and the associated emotions.
“It was great to hear about the memories sparked by the genres of music the residents enjoy – and even learn a new dance move or two!”
Snowdrop House delivers a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care, and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
