Shinfield school children get crafty for new care home

Home news

Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Shinfield’s newest care home.
Students from Shinfield Infant and Nursery School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’ The artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding Parsons Grange on Hollow Lane as the care home begins to take shape.

The children who designed the artwork visited the site to see their drawings on display, with the help of construction partners, Castleoak.
The multi-million-pound purpose-built care home, which will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 68 older people in Shinfield, is due to open in June 2020.

Peter Griffiths, development project manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Shinfield Infant and Nursery School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.
“It was great to welcome the children to see their pictures displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”

Amanda Turner, headteacher at the school, added: “The school plays an important part in the life of the local community and we were pleased to assist Care UK in decorating their hoardings. The children had a great time creating the artwork and loved seeing it displayed for everyone to see.”

The care home has officially been named ‘Parsons Grange’ after Louisa Parsons, a nurse trained by Florence Nightingale. Decorated for her service in the British Army, she also founded the University of Maryland School of Nursing, before moving back to England and spending the latter part of her life in Shinfield.

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
