‘Baking’ the world a better place - Stansted care home hero crowned

‘Baking’ the world a better place - Stansted care home hero crownedResidents and colleagues at a care home in Stansted have praised team members for their dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Lyndsey Nash, team leader and moving and handling co-ordinator at Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, has been named as a ‘Care UK Hero’ for going above and beyond for colleagues, residents and the local community in recent months.

The nomination was shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, this competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.

In addition to her duties as a team leader, Lyndsey has been a huge support to team members throughout the pandemic, always offering a listening ear when needed, and ensuring morale remains high.

Even after working a 12-hour shift at the home, long shifts didn’t stop Lyndsey baking treats for everyone in her spare time, including baking a birthday cake for unit manager, Gina, and gave each team member the opportunity to sign their own icing heart to be added to the delicious creation.

Lyndsey said: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen as a Care UK hero. I know just how difficult the past few months have been for everyone, so it was important for me to raise morale in any way I could, and I’m glad I was able to make a difference. The whole team at Mountfitchet House has worked really hard to create a positive environment, and I’m really grateful for their support.”

Maggie Spooner, relief home manager at Mountfitchet House, said: “Lyndsey’s hard work is appreciated by everyone at Mountfitchet House, and not least because of the sweet treats we have all enjoyed!

“Lyndsey has quickly adapted to the changes in ways of working, taking each new challenge in her stride. Her commitment to supporting not only residents but her colleagues, is amazing, and we are very proud to have her in the Mountfitchet House family”.

“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Lyndsey and the rest of the team enough for making Mountfitchet House a wonderful place to live.”

Mountfitchet House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
