A care home in Chester had a bale of a time with its handmade hay scarecrows for a local parish festival.
Care UK’s Deewater Grange care home, on Chester Road, got crafty to create four scarecrows from scratch as part of Huntington’s Scarecrow Festival.
The competition encourages the local community to create their own scarecrows throughout August, before being judged by the Lord Mayor of Chester himself. As well as sourcing the outfits, residents and team members worked together to build the scarecrows as well as staging a tea party with their hay creations, as a nod to a favourite pastime at the home. A Spiderman scarecrow was also displayed hanging upside down from the home’s balcony for the community to enjoy.
Sally Cooper, home manager at Deewater Grange, said: “We all enjoy getting crafty here at Deewater Grange, and we especially love getting involved in community events - so we were thrilled to be taking part in the Huntington’s Scarecrow Festival.
“Residents and team members all had a fantastic time creating the scarecrows, from sourcing the outfits to staging the tea party and displaying Spiderman on our balcony. Being able to join in a community event, even from a distance, truly lifted everyone’s spirits, and it was heart-warming to receive so many compliments on our very own ‘super-hay-ro’.
“On behalf of everyone at Deewater Grange, I’d like to thank the community for their kind messages. All of their entries were fantastic too and it was great to see all these scarecrows appear in local gardens – we’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
Deewater Grange has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities. The care home also has its very own cinema, hair salon and coffee shop, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
