Team behind multi-million pound Basingstoke care home celebrates ‘topping out’Basingstoke’s newest care home has marked its latest construction milestone with the help of a special guest.

The Mayor of Basingstoke, Councillor Diane Taylor, joined the Care UK team and representatives from specialist construction partner, Highwood, for a ‘topping out’ ceremony at Dashwood Manor, on Shortwoodcopse Lane.

The purpose-built care home – which is expected to welcome the first residents in October 2021 – will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 70 older people, with facilities including its own cinema, hair salon and café.

Peter Griffiths, development project manager for Care UK, said: “As one of the latest additions to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, the Basingstoke site represents a major investment for Care UK, and reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the town.

“I am delighted to have been a part of this milestone as we step ever-closer to opening the doors to the people of Basingstoke. We are honoured that the Mayor of Basingstoke was able to celebrate the occasion with us and we look forward to welcoming her back to the care home once it’s complete.”

The Mayor of Basingstoke, Councillor Diane Taylor, said: “I was delighted to take part in this special topping out ceremony in which the final tile is laid on the roof of the building.  This is an important milestone in the construction of a new care home in Basingstoke, which will bring to our town an excellent purpose-built facility for local residents.  I will be following its progress with interest and look forward to next year’s official opening.”

Jim Faulkner, Site Manager for Highwood, added: “We are proud to be playing a part in the progress of the much-needed, high-quality new care home for the local area. The building work is progressing fantastically, and we are still on schedule to be open in Autumn 2021.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
