A pawfect day – Godalming care home hosts dog show with a twist

Home news

A care home in Godalming hosted a virtual dog show with over 100 entrants across the country.

The team at Care UK’s Jubilee House, on Pound Lane, set up an application on the home’s Facebook page, and advertised in their local community. The dog show ended up receiving applications from all over the United Kingdom and beyond, including a contestant who entered all the way from New Zealand.

A pawfect day – Godalming care home hosts dog show with a twistResidents voted for their nominations for the most ‘Handsome Hound’, ‘Prettiest Pooch’, ‘Happiest Smile’, with Boo, a spaniel, taking the top prize for the dog residents ‘Most Wanted to Take Home.’ The winning dogs were sent a box of luxury dog treats for their efforts.

The dog show also provided a valuable reminiscence activity for residents who enjoyed chatting about pets they had owned in their younger years, and was particularly beneficial for those who live with dementia.

Totka Zhelyazkova, Home Manager at Jubilee House, said: “Everyone at Jubilee House loved hosting the dog show and voting for our favourite pooches. It proved a great way to engage with the local community safely during this time – and we were astonished to receive entries from all over the country and around the world.

“Here at Jubilee House we’re committed to supporting residents to live fulfilling lives, and activities like dog shows aid residents in reconnecting with interests and hobbies they had when they were younger.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part and gave us all a day to remember!”

Jubilee House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential and nursing dementia care, as well as respite care.
