‘Lest we forget’ – Leamington Spa care home inaugurates new memorial

Home news

A care home in Leamington Spa inaugurated a new war memorial to mark Remembrance Day.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Priors House, on Old Milverton Lane, worked together to organise a special Remembrance Day service as they installed a brand-new, permanent war memorial.

‘Lest we forget’ – Leamington Spa care home inaugurates new memorialAs part of the service, which was organised by the home, residents read poems and laid poppy wreaths. There was also a socially-distanced cornet performance featuring melodies such as Last Post and Reveille, which was specially organised for a resident who used to play the instrument himself.

In addition to the service, the home has also launched its very own poppy appeal, creating its own ‘poppy cart’, and will continue to raise funds until the end of the week.

Francine Summers, Home Manager at Priors House, said: “This time of year is especially significant for residents, as many of them were born during the Second World War and grew up in the post-war era, most likely listening to their parents’ stories of that time.

“I’m incredibly proud of how hard everyone at Priors House worked to create a permanent war memorial for the home and organise our Remembrance Sunday service. From the maintenance team and chefs to our lifestyle coordinators and nurses, everyone helped – I think it’s part of what made the event so special. It was a beautiful ceremony, complete with a lovely cornet performance, which the residents greatly appreciated.”

Priors House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity program, offering a mix of themed events, group activities and days out.
