Step into Christmas – Eye care home gets into the festive spirit

Home news

It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas at a care home in Eye.

Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, has well and truly stepped into Christmas this festive season, with team members and residents fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society for Elf Day as well as creating their own personal decorations for the care home.

Step into Christmas – Eye care home gets into the festive spiritResidents have also used their life story books as inspiration to create their own handmade Christmas trees. When moving into the home, life story books are filled in by the resident, their relatives, and the lifestyle team to help everyone get to know each other better.

Sitting with each individual, the lifestyle team have worked with residents to choose a decoration for each suite’s mini tree that best represents them. Decorations include a lollipop stick for a former lollipop lady, scissors for a former hairdresser, and the Royal Navy badge from a former serviceman.

Abhilash Gopi, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “Here at Hartismere Place, we like to go above and beyond at Christmas time – it really is the most wonderful time of the year!

“The history and life story of each resident is incredibly important, and we aim to celebrate this as much as we possibly can. Everyone had a fantastic time choosing their individual decoration, and it was a brilliant reminiscence activity for prompting happy memories and their associated emotions.

“After a challenging year, it really is the time to spread some festive cheer. On behalf of everyone at Hartismere Place, Merry Christmas!”

Rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Outstanding’, Hartismere Place has been praised for providing a high level of person-centred care and for the positive and caring relationships team members have established with residents. The home also has strong connections with the local community, playing an active role in initiatives such as the Eye Sculpture Trail and Eye Twinning Association.

Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite.
