It’s all in the name: Sileby pupils lend a helping hand to local care home

A local primary school helped to name the suites at a brand-new care home in Quorn.

Pupils from Redlands Community Primary School took part in a competition to name the four suites at Care UK’s new care home, Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way.

It’s all in the name: Sileby pupils lend a helping hand to local care homeThe children put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical significance to them and the local area.

The home team unveiled the names as Lonsdale Mews opened its doors, and is now revealing the story behind them, as the suites will be known as the ‘Beacon Suite,’ the ‘Watermead Suite,’ the ‘Swithland Suite,’ and the ‘Bradgate Suite’, which were inspired by a nature theme suggested by Millie, one of the local pupils.

Care UK has presented the school with £250 towards new books to say thank you for the pupils’ hard work.

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “As we’re starting to welcome the first residents to our new home, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a key consideration – and this presented an excellent opportunity to work with Redlands Community Primary School.

“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high standard and have truly inspired us – we’re really pleased with the four final names, and thrilled to finally unveil the story behind them.”

Mrs Tobin, Headteacher at Redlands Community Primary School, added: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked to work with us on this exciting new venture here in Quorn. The children had a great time researching the local area to help them come up with four suite names.

“Congratulations to Millie – we’re looking forward to building on this new relationship with Lonsdale Mews and meeting the residents as soon as we’re able.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
