The suite life – community invited to name suites a local care home

A new care home in Shrewsbury is asking the community for their help to find names for its suites – and they could win a £250 cash prize.

Set to be divided into four suites, Care UK’s Oxbow Manor, on Oteley Road, is hoping the names will help to bring back memories for future residents.

Members of the community are encouraged to share three suggestions based on the same theme, which could be inspired by Shrewsbury’s history and local places, its wildlife or famous residents. Should their entries make the cut, the winner of the suite naming competition will receive £250.

Each suite will feature a number of en-suite bedrooms, as well as their own dining room and lounge area, allowing the creation of smaller communities within the home, which makes it easier for residents to form new friendships and get to know each other. In addition, each suite will include specialist features and signage, further promoting independence.

Peter Griffiths, Construction Project Manager at Care UK, said: “After choosing ‘Oxbow Manor’ based on a suggestion made by the winner of our previous home naming competition, we’re asking the community for their help once again to name the suites inside the home.

“Our care home suites, which each include a number of bedrooms and separate own lounge and areas, are designed to create a sense of community among residents who live in them. By giving them all names inspired by a common theme, this brings everything together while creating countless opportunities for residents to reminisce about the area.

“We’re looking forward to hearing the local community’s suite name suggestions.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home, which is set to open in February 2022, will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities.
