Quorn care home launches initiative to support local community

Home news

A care home in Quorn has launched a new initiative to help support older people in the local community.

Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, has created activity packs to provide support for those living alone during the pandemic.

Quorn care home launches initiative to support local communityEach activity pack includes a booklet featuring various brain games, as well as practical resources for keeping well in older age.

So far, 50 packs have been donated to local groups including Quorn Village Community Cares, a volunteer network who support those in the community who are most vulnerable, and Barrow-upon-Soar Good Neighbours Scheme.

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “Millions of older people in the UK suffer from loneliness and may feel isolated, especially while living within the current pandemic restrictions, so we want to show them that we’re here to provide help and support, however we can.

“Many older members of the community have been shielding and unable to spend time with family and friends, so on top of activities to promote brain stimulation, which is essential for those living with dementia, our booklets also feature advice for keeping well, including nutrition tips.

“Lonsdale Mews opened its doors for the first time late last year, and we’re keen to play an active role in the Quorn community and help those who need it the most. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone into our home for events and activities once we’re able.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
