Kidderminster care home team member scoops prestigious award

Highlighted home news

A Kidderminster care home is celebrating after one of its team members was named best in the region.

Rebecca Archer, Lifestyle Coordinator at Care UK’s Brook Court, on Oldnall Road, has won a Worcestershire Health and Social Care Award in the Dementia Care category.Kidderminster care home team member scoops prestigious award

The Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards, ran conjointly by Worcester News and the University of Worcester, aims to reward those who have demonstrated excellence within their field of work.

Kidderminster local Rebecca, known as Beckie by her colleagues, joined the team at Brook Court in 2017. Part of her role includes organising meaningful activities and events for residents at the home, including those living with dementia. Over the years, she has led a range of projects involving the wider dementia community, such Age UK’s ‘Minute Your Moves’ five-weeks initiative, during which residents and team members recorded an impressive 6,200 minutes of exercise.

More recently, she enabled residents to take part in a drum workshop in a bid to promote music therapy, which has since been praised by the Alzheimer’s Society, and helped organise the home’s VE Day celebrations, which gave everyone a great opportunity to reminisce.

Beckie said: “I’m thrilled to have won a Worcestershire Health and Social Care Award in the Dementia Care category.

“Brook Court’s resident-centred approach means everything is tailored to the individuals’ needs – not only their care plan and diet, but our lifestyle programme too. There’s nothing like knowing an activity or event has made a big difference to a resident’s life, whether it’s given them an opportunity to remember happy times they’d forgotten or allowed them to reminisce through revisiting old hobbies. I’d like to say a big thank you to the rest of the Brook Court team for their continued support – together, we’ve created something really special.”

Gill Pratt, Home Manager at Brook Court, said: “Beckie has been an invaluable member of the Brook Court team ever since she joined, and I’m pleased to see her hard work and expertise when it comes to caring for residents living with dementia recognised by the wider Worcestershire community.

“Her energy and passion shines through everything she does, whether it’s one-on-one activities with residents or bigger projects involving the community. It’s fair to say our team wouldn’t be the same without her.

“Congratulations Beckie – this is incredibly well deserved.”

Brook Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home, which features 67 en-suite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence.
