Round of a-paws – East Grinstead care home hosts dog show

Home news

Care UK’s Mill View, on Sunnyside Close, hosted its very own edition of Crufts and invited local people and their canine companions to participate.

As part of the contest, members of the community showcased their dogs’ skills and good looks in one or more of the four possible categories: ‘Cutest pose or smile’, ‘Funniest picture’, ‘Best girl’ and ‘Best boy’.

Winners included Millie, an 11-month-old Cockapoo, who received the ‘Funniest picture’ prize for posing with her owner’s sunglasses and swimsuit, and Nellie, who warmed the judges’ heart with her bright smile in the ‘Cutest pose or smile’ category.Round of a-paws – East Grinstead care home hosts dog show

The worthy winners, picked by a judging panel of residents, received personalised rosettes.

Jean Smith, a resident at Mill View, said: “We all loved the virtual dog show. We received a lot of great entries from the community – it was hard to choose one, all the dogs were lovely.”

Rachel Woodward, Home Manager at Mill View, said: “We’re pleased to say our first-ever dog show was a resounding success – we received so many wonderful pictures of dog it was hard to pick just a handful of them!

“We know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people, especially for those living with dementia, as being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood and stimulate social interaction. With current restrictions in place, a virtual pet competition seemed like the next best thing, and residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of our judging panel.

“We’re looking forward to hosting our very own Crufts next year – and can’t wait to have our furry friends visiting again soon.”

Mill View has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
