Windsor care home flies the rainbow flag for Pride Month

Highlighted home news

A Windsor care home held a special celebration to mark Pride Month – all while serving up advice to support older people in the community this summer.

Care UK’s Mountbatten Grange, on Helston Lane, hosted a rainbow-themed garden party to end Pride Month on a high.Windsor care home flies the rainbow flag for Pride Month

On the day, the home’s garden was adorned with Pride flags and inclusivity messages, while residents had the opportunity to tap their feet to live entertainment from professional singer Chirag.

Residents were also treated to a tasty barbecue and to delicious mocktails and fruity drinks, all specially prepared by the home’s chef and directly inspired by Care UK’s latest nutrition and hydration booklet, designed to support older people throughout the summer months. Everyone also enjoyed a special visit from an ice cream truck which provided a much-needed sweet treat on the hot, sunny day.

As well as special drink, the booklet, written by Care UK’s highly-qualified catering team, covers every aspect of hydration, from why older people are more likely to suffer from dehydration, to how to create drinks for people who may have lost the triggers that tell us we’re thirsty, while offering information about good food sources for hydration, such as watermelon, lettuce or tomato.

Jack, a resident at the home, said: “This was wonderful – being together celebrating made me very happy. Looking around, everyone had a big smile on their face.”

Debbie Winwood, Home Manager at Mountbatten Grange, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating Pride Month with residents.

“Over the years, the team at Mountbatten Grange has taken part with other local Care UK homes in the London Pride Parade, and with restriction remaining in place at the moment, we wanted to bring the festivities to residents instead. Everyone loved learning more about the history of the LGBTQIA+ community and decorating the home with rainbows in preparation for the celebration.

“With temperatures rising, our garden party was also a perfect opportunity to put our latest tasty recipes to the test – they were all a hit with residents! We’d like to encourage local people to download their own copy of the guide and give them a try too.”
