Local care home invites Chichester residents to understand dementia

Home news

A care home in Chichester is inviting the local community to a free, online event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 22nd September from 2pm-3.30pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual Understanding Dementia event hosted by Care UK’s Chichester Grange, Grosvenor Road.

Dr Nori Graham

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Naomi Butcher, Home Manager at Chichester Grange, said: “There are currently 850,00 people living with dementia in the UK – and it is estimated that a further 209,600 individuals will develop it this year alone*. We realise that many families will also be affected too, so our event will offer professional expertise and insight to those in need, as well as a forum for sharing experiences.

“It can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia, and we want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Chichester Grange will host the event using Microsoft Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Julie Bartholomew, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home, which is set to open in early December will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.

To book your place at this free event, please call Customer Relations Manager, Julie Bartholomew, on 0330 058 3250 or email Julie.Bartholomew@careuk.com
