Local care home invites Crowborough residents to understand dementia

Home news

A local care home is inviting the community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.

On 1st September, from 2pm-3.30pm, the Care UK team at Heather View, on Beacon Road, will be hosting a virtual Understanding Dementia event.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Home Manager at Heather View, Natasha King, said: “There are currently 850,00 people living with dementia in the UK – and it is estimated that a further 209,600 individuals will develop it this year alone*. We realise that many families will also be affected too, so our event will offer professional expertise and insight to those in need, as well as a forum for sharing experiences.

“It can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia, and we want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Heather View will host the event using Microsoft Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Gailynne Peters, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.

Heather View has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite and palliative care.
