Three is a magic number – Sutton Coldfield care home celebrates anniversary in style

Home news

A care home in Sutton Coldfield cut the cake to mark its third anniversary.

Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, pulled out all the stops for a special garden party birthday bash, three years after it welcomed the first residents.

Guests had the opportunity to dance and tap their feet to live entertainment from professional pianist Damian, and were treated to a delicious miniature menu which included mini fish and chips and mini shepherd’s pie and stuffed Yorkshire puddings. Residents were also treated to a slice of birthday cake, which was specially prepared by Mercia Grange’s chef.

The team at Mercia Grange are no strangers to big celebrations, having hosted many parties for residents, on occasions such as VE Day, Burns Night or the Queen’s birthday, since opening the doors to the care home. Mercia Grange is known for its activity-based care approach – over the years, they’ve launched a dementia-friendly choir and taken part in a number of nationwide initiatives to support residents to lead fulfilled lives, including The Big Draw and the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Dawn Covill, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “It was wonderful to see all the residents singing along and dancing in the garden to toast our special milestone.

“The whole team worked hard to organise the event, and I am delighted to say that their efforts were rewarded – our birthday party will definitely be one to remember for years to come. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who celebrated our third birthday with us, and for helping to make the day extra special.

“It’s been a busy three years, despite having spent one of these in lockdown. We’ve welcomed some real characters to the home, built relationships with brilliant local organisations, and worked hard to create a homely environment for everyone who spends time with us here at Mercia Grange. We’re excited to see what’s in store for the next three years and beyond!”

Mercia Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care. The three-storey care home, which features 67 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
